Racquetball Equipment Selection Guidelines

Racquetball Racquet Selection Guidelines

Top Criteria to Consider:
Weight (150grams- 205grams)
Weight Balance (head heavy – balanced)
Grip Size –3 5/8 (small)or 3 15/16 (big) smaller the grip the more wrist snap, more power
90% of all racquetball racquet purchases are 3 5/8 also you can always build up.
Weight : is player specific, people with slower swings and weaker wrist snap can benefit from a lighter racquet that is balanced head heavy.(150-175 grams).were a stronger more advanced player may look for a more control, even-balanced racquet.(150-205 grams)

Weight Balance: The choices are generally head-heavy, head-light or evenly balanced.

Racquetball String Selection Guidelines

Top Criteria to Consider:
Gauge (thickness)
Player Skill Level

Racquetball string gauges typically vary from 15Ll(thicker) to 18 (thinner). The gauge determines the combination of power and control you have over your shots.

Beginning players should consider thicker (16 gauge) strings because they are less likely to break when they are learning the game and give more feel.

As the gauge increases and the durability of the strings decrease, experienced players notice more power and control, but also more breakage.

General rules of thumb:
15L gauge strings: for frequent string breakers.
16 gauge strings: for general tournament play or recreational play.
17 gauge strings: for maximum power and control. In tournament play, be prepared for some breakage from off centered shots. For recreational play will help supply more power.
18 gauge strings: for very soft hitters who rarely break their strings

Color
Event Sanctioning Body

Racquetball colors include blue, purple, black, green and red.

At racquetball events, the governing body of the event determines what racquetballs will be used, usually based on a contract with a manufacturer to promote their products.

In general, red balls, such as the Ektelon Fireball, are faster. Although designed for outdoor play, many players like the speed on indoor courts tool.

Black balls are typically slower, preferred by senior players and others looking for longer rallies and slower play.

Penn balls are produced in 3 colors blue, purple, and green.
Purple and green are generally used in sanctioned tournaments while blue has been the standard for many years. the purple and green balls have a more lively hit .
